Description

Reference: QLD204
Bioregion: Brigalow Belt North
Criteria for inclusion in Directory: 1,2,3
Catchment: Suttor River

Location

On the floodplain of the Suttor River. The central point is at 21 degrees 02' 49" S, 146 degrees 51' 41" E about 60 kilometres north-west of Mount Coolon.

Significance

This site is a good example of an inland floodplain in central Queensland. The two large water holes are outstanding examples of the permanently turbid inactive channel waterholes that appear to be characteristic of the southwestern Burdekin catchment. Riparian and floodplain vegetation provide good examples of these types, particularly coolabah floodplain woodland.
