Southern Upstart Bay DOIW
Immediately south of Cape Upstart. The centre of the site is at 19 degrees 50' 34 S, 147 degrees 48' 49" S. 49' 48. E. It has a total length of c.40 kilometres and is up to c.8 kilometres wide, with its centre 56 kilometres south-east of Ayr.
Extensive low lying coastal plain area. Upstart Bay is considered to be an estuary of high fisheries value. Bunds constructed at the southern end of the swales that occur south of The Cape homestead increase the areas of freshwater available and isolate the lower lying areas from saltwater incursion.
